AVIAN vs. Optris
Choose the measurement setup and the monitoring workflow.
A camera can measure an overheating component accurately and still leave the plant team to build the alarm workflow. Optris provides infrared measurement cameras, analysis software, and industrial interfaces. AVIAN combines its camera with adaptive PM, RGB + thermal fire detection, mobile incident handling, and engineering involvement.
The short answer
Choose AVIAN when the job is to catch abnormal machine behavior and fire situations, then help operators investigate and respond through one supported system. Choose Optris when a specific measurement range, lens, or industrial interface drives the design. Optris supports early fire detection applications, and selected cameras operate autonomously. The practical difference is the complete package: measurement and configured outputs versus AVIAN’s supplied adaptive monitoring and operator workflow.
AVIAN vs. Optris at a glance
Compare the specified Optris camera and software package with the AVIAN monitoring system. A USB analysis setup and a standalone Ethernet package are different architectures.
Scope: AVIAN T100 and monitoring service versus Optris Xi/PI cameras, PIX Connect, and selected industrial interfaces. Features vary by camera and package.
Early fire detection
- AVIAN T100 + monitoring service
- AI fire detection models combine RGB and thermal camera information to identify real fire situations and help distinguish nuisance conditions.
- Optris Xi/PI + selected integration
- Optris publishes early fire detection applications using infrared cameras. The selected camera and alarm configuration form the detection installation.[1]
Predictive maintenance
- AVIAN T100 + monitoring service
- PM algorithms learn normal machine behavior automatically, compensate for operating and ambient changes, and warn when machine centers begin to deviate.[5]
- Optris Xi/PI + selected integration
- PIX Connect supports measurement areas, temperature-time analysis, and configured pre-alarms and alarms. These are concrete tools for building temperature monitoring.[2]
Camera hardware
- AVIAN T100 + monitoring service
- T100: 256 × 192 thermal imaging and a 12 MP visible sensor in one camera.[5]
- Optris Xi/PI + selected integration
- Xi 410 industrial package: 384 × 240 thermal pixels, multiple fields of view, and selectable temperature ranges. Other Xi/PI models serve different measurement requirements.[3]
Mobile app
- AVIAN T100 + monitoring service
- AVIAN Mobile on Google Play: thermal views, trends, alarm notifications, incident acknowledgement, and response notes.[9]
- Optris Xi/PI + selected integration
- IRmobile is a cable-connected Android tool for camera commissioning and live thermal analysis. It serves a different task from remote incident acknowledgement.[4]
Alerts + escalation
- AVIAN T100 + monitoring service
- Calls, SMS, WhatsApp, email, and app alerts, with recipients, schedules, and acknowledgements.[5]
- Optris Xi/PI + selected integration
- PIX Connect provides visual and audible warnings and configurable outputs. The camera/software package determines the alarm path to the wider installation.[2]
PLC + plant integration
- AVIAN T100 + monitoring service
- Modbus TCP, MQTT, and ODVA conformant EtherNet/IP support plant response workflows.[7]
- Optris Xi/PI + selected integration
- Xi 410 industrial packages offer analog/relay interfaces and optional EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, and Modbus TCP. These allow a measurement-led control-system design.[3]
Deployment + time to value
- AVIAN T100 + monitoring service
- AVIAN helps plan coverage, configure zones, set up escalation, and tune monitoring after launch.[6]
- Optris Xi/PI + selected integration
- Xi 410 industrial packages support autonomous or computer-enabled operation; PIX Connect configures the camera. A PC is not required for every Optris deployment.[3]
Integration planning: MaintainX, Fiix, other CMMS connectors, and automated Slack workflows are planned. Available support channels, including Slack, are scoped separately with your team.
Where each approach fits
Start with what the plant needs after the measurement.
Precision measurement and operational monitoring can overlap. The deciding factor is whether you are specifying a measurement subsystem or buying the detection-to-response workflow.
AVIAN
You want fire detection and PM together.
You want one system that helps recognize real fire situations and catches changes in equipment behavior, with direct access to the team that configures and supports it. Customers cite ease of use, cost effectiveness, and time to value. Support is scoped with your team, including a dedicated Slack channel when useful.

These checks turn a camera specification into a practical operating decision.
01
Measure the real target
Use the intended lens, distance, enclosure, and surface conditions. Show that the smallest component of interest is measurable in the proposed view.
02
Follow a changing machine cycle
Review temperature behavior during startup, load changes, and steady operation. Show how the system distinguishes expected heat from a persistent deviation.
03
Demonstrate unattended response
Trigger an alarm while the maintenance team is away from the camera. Follow notification, review, acknowledgement, and the plant-control handoff.

AVIAN vs. Optris: common questions
Is AVIAN an alternative to an Optris-based monitoring installation?
Yes, when the objective is early fire detection and predictive maintenance with a supplied operator workflow. AVIAN combines RGB + thermal fire AI, automatically learned PM, mobile incident handling, and scoped engineering support. Optris is especially relevant when the project starts with a specific infrared measurement requirement.[5][3]
Do Optris cameras require a continuously connected PC?
Not all of them. The Xi 410 industrial package supports autonomous operation as well as computer-enabled operation, with PIX Connect used for configuration. Its published frame rates differ by operating mode. Specify the required mode and outputs rather than treating the whole Optris range as PC-dependent.[3]
How is AVIAN’s adaptive PM different from configured measurement alarms?
PIX Connect lets users define measurement areas, alarm levels, and pre-alarms. AVIAN’s PM algorithms learn normal machine behavior automatically and compensate for operational and ambient changes. The meaningful evaluation is the warning each setup produces as machine conditions change. This comparison does not assume that every Optris integration uses the same analytics.[2][5]
Are AVIAN Mobile and Optris IRmobile interchangeable?
They address different jobs. IRmobile connects compatible Optris cameras to Android devices by cable for setup and analysis. AVIAN Mobile supports remote views, notifications, incident acknowledgement, and response notes in an AVIAN organization. Choose around the task and location of the operator.[4][9]
