Development Updates

Apr 2, 2024

To our valued customers,

Thomas and I felt that it would be a nice thing to keep our customers updated on the recent developments, both technical and business. As such, I wanted to take a moment to give the first formal update on some recent product developments.

Over the last couple of weeks, the AVIAN team has been pushing hard to bring enhanced features and user experience to you.

Here is a brief look into these developments:

Newly Deployed Features

  1. Improved dashboard functionality

    • Users can now modify the locations of existing regions of interest without needing to delete and start over – Simply click on an existing region and a dialogue will appear, prompting you to redraw the image

  1. Smoke and Fire computer vision algorithms deployed to standard cameras in Beta phase

  • We have been hard at work at training our smoke and fire detection algorithms

  • This algorithm is the key for achieving VdS certification as a Video Fire Detector

  • We have rolled out this update to many cameras and are collecting data on detections

  • Alarms will come directly to us at AVIAN for evaluation, but in the future will go directly to your emergency contacts

  1. LTE Backup Modules

  • Uptime and reliability of our monitoring system is critical – that is why we developed a solution for when the internet goes down at your facility

  • We now offer a Backup Module which features a cellular connection over LTE which will forward alarms to the cloud without relying on your internet service provider

Ongoing Development

  1. We are searching for customers interested in upgrading their existing network cameras (Axis, HIKVision, etc) for fire and smoke detection

  • The same algorithms which run on our cameras can be used to upgrade your existing network camera infrastructure

  • We install a specialized computer at your facility, connect to the cameras, then run the fire and smoke detection on them

  • Contact us for further details

  1. Automatic Livestream trigger when alarm is detected

  • This will make it easier for us to track down where, why, and how an alarm is triggered

  1. Heartbeat alarms can be configured to go directly to a specialized emergency contact

  • For a long time now, the AVIAN team has received “Heartbeat” alarms which tell us when a camera has lost connection with our cloud provider

  • We realized that information may be especially valuable to you, the customer, in helping to troubleshoot issues with your internet service

  • Within the next couple of weeks, you will be able to select if you would like to receive alarms when a camera loses connection

  1. Putting alarms to sleep

  • Sometimes you may need to conduct “hot-work” or maintenance where the temperatures may exceed the thresholds set for a camera

  • We are in the process of adding a “Sleep” function where you can log in and put specific cameras to sleep for certain periods of time

  1. VdS testing and certification

  • We are working on a partnership with Fachhochschule Bern to help us certify our cameras to the VdS 3847 standard for Video Fire Detectors

  • First tests were performed in the week of March 25th which will replicate the fire tests from VdS 3847.

There are of course many more things happening behind the scenes - but we value your time and want to provide the core updates.

Thank you very much for your time, support, and efforts on helping us to build the best fire prevention product on the market.
We cannot do it without you.
